Sources:

In considering the species of fish in the Rocky Mountains, we have chosen a cross-section of the Missouri River Basin as represented by fish populations in Wyoming and neighboring states. Both native and non-native species are included. And fortunately, the game and fish departments in each state provide species lists.

As with mammals and birds, our taxonomy follows that of the Integrated Taxonomic Information System favored by the United States Department of Agriculture, other federal agencies, and by the Canadian Government. Those links also are provided toward the bottom of this page. For species photos, habitat, and descriptive information, we ran the gamut of fishing sites on the Internet till we found FishBase.org at the University of British Columbia. That appears to be the most thorough online database of North American fishes.
